 —  —

Vashon Center for the Arts - Atrium, 19600 Vashon Hwy SW, Vashon

Free Event! Join us in the Vashon Center for the Arts atrium for a pop-up “Songwriter Session” with JD Hobson and Ron Hook. JD Hobson: At the crossroads where Appalachian soul meets Seattle grit, JD Hobson delivers a sound that’s as timeless as it is fresh. Born and raised in Seattle but steeped in his Virginia roots, JD fuses the fingerpicking finesse of Mississippi John Hurt, the lonesome spirit of Hank Williams Sr., and the poetic edge of early Bob Dylan — all powered by the raw energy of Seattle’s grunge era. His music is Americana with attitude — rootsy, real, and full of fire. Ron Hook: Adding his own spark to the session, Ron Hook brings over 50 years of songwriting and performing experience to the stage. A beloved fixture of Vashon’s Subconscious Population, Ron’s mix of reggae, rock, and rhythm — played on everything from guitar and harmonica to flute and sax — radiates joy and connection. His soulful presence is all about good vibes and moving the crowd. Together, JD and Ron promise an unforgettable afternoon of heartfelt songs, deep grooves, and Northwest musical magic. JD Hobson stands at the crossroads where Seattle's 90s-era Grunge and Americana meet. Born and raised in Seattle, JD spent his teenage years attending local shows with friends, while at home he was immersed in his father's love of Folk and Blues music on the radio. Steeped in the music of his father's youth in Virginia, yet firmly planted at the epicenter of a cultural phenomenon in Seattle, JD brings a unique perspective to everything he does. Another spark of light from a region that has spawned so many stars!

JD Hobson's music is an original combination of Virginia Appalachian folk and blues, amped up with the raw energy of Seattle's grunge scene. With a family history in the Piedmont Appalachian area of Virginia dating back to colonial times, JD's music reflects this rich heritage. His sound merges the smooth finger-picking of Mississippi John Hurt, the high lonesome tones of Hank Williams Sr., and a touch of young Bob Dylan, all infused with the intensity of Seattle's grunge movement. It's Americana with a fresh edge!

The Jelly Rollers are an award-winning NW alt-blues/americana band. They can be seen all over the NW performing in configurations ranging from a classic guitar and harmonica duo which features OG members Sean Divine (vox, harmonica) and Darren Loucas (guitar, vox) to a quartet, featuring (but not limited to) ace rhythm section - Rebecca Young and Eric Eagle or even bigger bands with organ, piano, 2nd guitar, guest vocalists made up of some of the finest players around - Ron Weinstein, Stebmo, Wayne Horvitz, Jeff Fielder, Ayesha Brooks and ...?

From the backporch to the superhighway...the JR's are that rare blues band that bypass the cliches of electric blues and channel the deep and eerie soul of the OLD blues and serve it up with a mighty beat that's impossible to resist. Catch them live!
